Spatio-temporal concentration of acetylcholine in vertebrate synaptic cleft
نویسندگان
چکیده
The concentration of acetylcholine (ACh) in the synaptic cleft at the neuromuscular junction (NMJ) remains impossible to quantify using direct measurements based upon spatio-temporal resolution. We present a model of the concentration of ACh in the synaptic cleft. Our model considers the release mechanism and the clearance process, represented by the hydrolysis of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and the rate of diffusion across the cleft and binding to nicotinic ACh receptor channels. Using our model, we evaluate the contribution of these factors and their relative importance in determining the spatial distribution of neurotransmitter concentration in the neuromuscular junction. c © 2006 Elsevier Ltd. Spatio-Temporal Variation of Suspended Sediment Concentration at Downstream of a Sand Mine
The growing population led to greater human need to use natural resources such as sand and gravel mines. Direct removal of sands from the bed river leads to increase suspended sediment concentrations in downstream of harvested area and creates other problems viz. filling reservoirs, change in hydraulic characteristics of the channel and environmental damages. However, the range of temporal and ...

advances, it's now possible to get an in-depth look at cellular processes. These images show three-dimensional Monte Carlo simulations of synaptic variability at the vertebrate neuromuscular junction. The simulations were created using the MCELL computer program. In the image at top right, highly convoluted synaptic membranes have been reconstructed; the cleft face of the muscle membrane is lig...
متن کاملStochastic model of central synapses: slow diffusion of transmitter interacting with spatially distributed receptors and transporters.
A detailed mathematical analysis of the diffusion process of neurotransmitter inside the synaptic cleft is presented and the spatio-temporal concentration profile is calculated. Using information about the experimentally observed time course of glutamate in the cleft the effective diffusion coefficient Dnet is estimated as Dnet approximately 20-50 nm(2) microseconds(-1), implying a strong reduc...

Several lines of evidence have led to the hypothesis that agrin, a protein extracted from the electric organ of Torpedo, is similar to the molecules in the synaptic cleft basal lamina at the neuromuscular junction that direct the formation of acetylcholine receptor and acetylcholinesterase aggregates on regenerating myofibers. One such finding is that monoclonal antibodies against agrin stain m...
متن کاملUltrafast and Slow Cholinergic Transmission. Different Involvement of Acetylcholinesterase Molecular Forms "2279
Acetylcholine (ACh), an ubiquitous mediator substance broadly expressed in nature, acts as neurotransmitter in cholinergic synapses, generating specific communications with different time-courses. (1) Ultrafast transmission. Vertebrate neuromuscular junctions (NMJs) and nerve-electroplaque junctions (NEJs) are the fastest cholinergic synapses; able to transmit brief impulses (1–4 ms) at high fr...
